SEO Budgets to Increase in 2014

Search is king, and in this digital age it's no wonder to see marketing budgets shift towards increasing companies' online footprints. According to a survey conducted SEMPO and Econsultancy, nearly 70% of agency respondents said their clients' SEO budgets would increase in 2014. The primary objective for this increase in budget is to drive traffic to the companies' websites. Can't say we're surprised. More survey findings can be found here.

Hummingbird to Focus on Quality Content and Mobile Browsing

Google announced its biggest algorithm change in the last decade recently with Hummingbird, leaving web developers and SEO strategists alike to figure out how this will affect rankings. Whether you build websites or not, the below infographic gives you a pretty good idea of what to expect from Hummingbird. As you can see, the new formula more or less resembles what we've already come to know of SEO best practices, with the biggest being providing quality content. There is also a larger emphasis on mobile, which makes sense considering how many more people are searching on mobile devices compared to ten years ago.

Mapping Out Google Usage by State

Really interesting data from online advertising company Chitika about Google usage by state. The research found, among other things, that there is a positive correlation between higher job growth and education level and use of Google as the preferred search engine.

"That means, the more each one of those variables increased or decreased, so did the odds of Google search engine usage. The effect of each independent variable, for example, median household income and median age, is measured by holding other variables constant."
